Citations issued to puppy store

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Washoe regional animal control authorities on Friday cited the Puppy Place pet store on two criminal violations involving selling puppies without having them first examined by a veterinarian.

Regional animal control director Cindy Sabatoni said the pet store could not provide any required veterinarian evaluations for 23 puppies that were available for sale Monday in the store.

She said that’s a violation of state law. A second citation was written because customers were not provided with complete records of the dogs, including their medical histories.

The Iams Company Combines New “Smart Puppy” Formula Food with Online Training Center for Healthy Puppies and Happy Pet Owners

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

Approximately 74 million dogs are owned as pets in the United States alone (American Pet Products Manufacturers Association 2005 Survey). And while pets are excellent sources of companionship, training our four-legged friends basic manners like “sit,” “come,” “down,” and “stay” and helping them with the often dreaded task of potty training can be a tough job.

To help new and seasoned pet owners navigate the process of puppyhood, The Iams Company, a leader in pet care nutrition and education, has developed new Iams(R) Smart Puppy(TM) formula with enhanced levels of DHA. A key brain-building nutrient for both humans and animals, Docosahexaenoic Acid, commonly referred to as DHA, has been found to promote smarter, more trainable puppies when fed to both pregnant and nursing mother dogs and their puppies. Just like babies, a puppy’s ability to learn depends on healthy brain development, and the omega-3 fatty acid DHA is an important building block in that process.

“Through our research, we have found puppies nourished with enhanced levels of DHA respond better to training,” said Dr. Dan Carey, a veterinarian with The Iams Company. “For veterinarians, the research on DHA means training can be easier for the client when their puppy is nourished with optimum levels of this key brain-building nutrient.”
